Project: Celtic Pools Mobile App Redesign

Role: UX/UI Designer, Research to Prototype
Type:
Mobile app redesign concept

Project Overview
Alongside completing my Bachelor’s degree, I also completed an additional UI/UX design course focused on user experience research, mobile interface design, and interactive prototyping.

For my final project, I chose to redesign the Celtic Pools mobile app, using a real world product to explore how modern UX/UI principles can improve usability, engagement, and overall user experience. The project involved researching the existing application, identifying pain points within the navigation and interface structure, and redesigning the experience with a more modern, mobile first approach while still maintaining the recognisable Celtic branding.

The redesign focused on improving visual hierarchy, simplifying navigation, and creating a more immersive football centred experience through features such as personalised dashboards, matchday fixtures, prize draws, ticket management, live results tracking, and improved account interaction. Throughout the project I worked through the full design process from UX research and competitor analysis to wireframing, high fidelity UI design, interaction states, and interactive prototyping in Figma.

This project helped strengthen my understanding of end to end product redesign, accessibility, user centred design thinking, and creating consistent mobile experiences across multiple screens and user flows.

Splash Screen Exploration

The splash screen concepts explored branding placement, colour hierarchy, and dark mode integration while maintaining the recognisable Celtic identity. Multiple variations were tested before progressing to the final version, which introduced responsible gambling messaging directly within the opening experience.

The final splash screen incorporated BeGambleAware and 18+ indicators to ensure users are immediately presented with responsible gambling information before entering the main application experience. This decision aimed to balance modern visual design with transparency, accessibility, and industry appropriate user guidance.

Homepage Redesign Comparison

The original Celtic Pools homepage presented large amounts of information within a cluttered mobile layout. The redesign focused on improving navigation, visual hierarchy, and overall usability through a cleaner football focused experience featuring personalised jackpots, matchday fixtures, prize draws, and streamlined ticket management.

Smaller branded details were also incorporated throughout the interface, including the use of the recognisable Celtic star icon within the notification system to strengthen visual consistency across the app.

Ticket Management Experience

The ticket management screens were redesigned to create a more interactive and user friendly mobile experience focused on clarity, accessibility, and quick navigation. The redesign introduced personalised ticket tracking, active and past ticket filtering, expandable ticket states, and clearer winner indicators to help users easily manage entries and view draw outcomes.

The interface was designed to modernise the overall experience while maintaining consistency with the football focused branding and visual identity used throughout the app.

Results Experience

The results section was redesigned to create a clearer and more engaging way for users to view winning numbers, recent winners, and prize outcomes within a structured mobile layout. The redesign introduced highlighted jackpot winner cards, simplified result tracking, and improved information hierarchy to make draw results easier to scan and interact with.

The interface aimed to improve transparency and trust by presenting winner information, ticket details, prizes, and draw dates in a more modern and accessible format while maintaining consistency with the overall Celtic Pools visual identity.

Account Management Experience

The account management screens were redesigned to create a cleaner and more personalised user experience focused on accessibility, simplicity, and profile interaction. The profile header was inspired by the shape and structure of Celtic season tickets to create a stronger connection between the digital experience and existing club branding.

The redesign introduced clearer account settings, simplified profile management, personalised member information, and improved navigation hierarchy while maintaining consistency with the overall football focused visual identity of the app.
